Constitution of India , Art.226, Art.136— Conservation of monument – Directions for – Directions issued by High Court regarding blasting operations undertaken for limestone extraction resulting in possible damage to existing structures of Chittorgarh Fort were challenged – Besides blasting operations other contributory circumstances for damage were tourist footfall, monkey menace and haphazard maintenance by ASI and local authorities – Therefore, court observed that approach to preserving monument must be multi-dimensional – Accordingly, directions were issued for the same – It was directed that manual/mechanical mining operations permitted within a radius of five kilometres would be allowed to be continued, subject to lessees possessing valid lease in accordance with law.
